Complete physica exams

Complete Physical Exams

A complete physical exam, also known as a nose-to-tail exam, is a thorough examination of a pet's overall health. This type of exam is often performed annually as part of a wellness check, but it can also be done when a pet is sick to help diagnose and treat any health issues.

During a complete physical exam, a veterinarian will carefully inspect your pet's nose, ears, eyes, mouth, teeth, and skin to check for any abnormalities or signs of illness. The veterinarian will also listen to your pet's heart and lungs, and check their temperature, pulse, and respiration rate. In addition, the veterinarian may perform other diagnostic tests, such as blood work or x-rays, to get a more complete picture of your pet's health.

It's important to schedule regular complete physical exams for your pet, as early detection and treatment of any health issues can help improve their quality of life and potentially extend their lifespan. If you have any concerns about your pet's health, it's always best to consult with a veterinarian to determine the best course of action.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations

Preventive medicine is an important aspect of maintaining your pet's health. It involves taking steps to prevent the occurrence of diseases and other health issues in your pet. This can include regular check-ups and physical exams, vaccinations, parasite control, and maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

Preventive care is important because it can help catch potential health problems early, when they are most easily treated. This can save you both time and money, and can also help improve your pet's quality of life. In addition, preventive care can help prevent the spread of diseases to other animals and humans.

It's important to consult with a veterinarian to determine the specific preventive care recommendations for your pet based on their breed, age, and lifestyle. By following a preventive care plan, you can help ensure that your pet stays healthy and happy for years to come.

Microchipping

Microchipping

Have peace of mind knowing that you have microchipped your pet!

Microchipping is a safe and effective way to permanently identify your pet. A microchip is a small, rice-sized chip that is implanted under your pet's skin. The chip contains a unique identification number that is registered to you and your contact information.

If your pet becomes lost or goes missing, a veterinarian or animal shelter can scan the microchip to quickly and easily identify your pet and contact you to reunite you with your furry friend. This is especially important if your pet is not wearing a collar or identification tags.

Surgeries

Surgeries

Both routine spays and neuters and select non-routine soft tissue surgeries are offered.

Spaying and neutering are routine surgical procedures that are commonly performed on pets to prevent unwanted pregnancies and certain health problems. Spaying involves surgically removing a female pet's ovaries and uterus, while neutering involves removing a male pet's testicles. These procedures are usually done when pets are young, but can also be performed on older animals.

In addition to routine spays and neuters, we also offer a range of other non-routine soft tissue surgeries. These surgeries are usually more complex and may require a longer recovery time than routine spays and neuters.

It's important to consult with a veterinarian to determine if a non-routine surgery is necessary for your pet and to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the procedure.

Urgent Care and Emergency Servies

Urgent care cases can include things like wound care, severe ear infections, eye abnormalities, and other conditions that cannot wait until the next available appointment.  Emergency services are for pets that are experiencing a life-threatening condition and require immediate medical attention. This can include things like difficulty breathing, severe injuries, poisoning, and other serious health issues. If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, it's important to seek veterinary care as soon as possible to ensure the best possible outcome for your pet.

In-House Blood Work

Get answers concerning your pet’s condition today!

In-house blood work refers to the ability of a veterinary clinic to perform blood tests on pets on-site, without having to send the samples to an external laboratory. This allows veterinarians to get results quickly and make decisions about a pet's treatment plan in a timely manner.

Blood work is an important diagnostic tool that can provide valuable information about a pet's overall health. It can help diagnose a wide range of conditions including inflammatory diseases, possible infections, endocrine disorders, and more.

If your pet is experiencing a health issue, we may recommend blood work to help diagnose the problem and determine the best course of action. In-house blood work capabilities can help provide answers about your pet's condition more quickly and allow for more timely treatment. It's always best to consult with a veterinarian to determine the best course of action for your pet's specific situation.

Access to Reference Laboratory Testing and Consultations

Get expert advice from specialists concerning your pet’s specific test results. At Ely Veterinary Care, we can send your pet’s biologic samples and images to a reference laboratory for testing and interpretation when warranted.

Reference laboratory testing and consultations are services offered by specialized laboratories.  These services provide expert advice and interpretation of your pet’s test results by trained specialists such as pathologists, microbiologists, parasitologists, radiologists, and others.  This can be helpful in cases where your pet has complex or unusual test results or if you have questions or concerns about your pet’s health.  Reference laboratory testing and consultations can help you and your veterinarian make informed decisions about your pet’s care and treatment.

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging is a type of medical testing that uses specialized equipment to create detailed images of the inside of the body. Digital radiography and ultrasonography are two common types of diagnostic imaging that are available at Ely Veterinary Care.

Digital radiography uses X-ray technology to create detailed images of the bones and internal organs of your pet. This can be helpful in detecting injuries, fractures, or other abnormalities in the bones and can also be used to evaluate the health of your pet's internal organs.

Ultrasonography, also known as ultrasound, uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of your pet's internal organs, including the heart, liver, and kidneys. This technique is often used to diagnose conditions such as heart, liver, and kidney disease. It is also used to evaluate the health of your pet's unborn puppies or kittens during pregnancy.

Both digital radiography and ultrasonography are important tools in the diagnosis and treatment of many different conditions in pets. By offering these services in-house, we can provide more timely and convenient care for your pets.

Other In-House Laboratory Services

Other In-House Laboratory Services

In-house laboratory services are diagnostic tests that are performed on-site at a veterinary clinic or hospital. These tests can help your veterinarian diagnose a wide range of conditions and diseases in your pet. Some common in-house laboratory services include:

  • Urinalysis: This test involves examining a sample of your pet's urine to check for signs of infection, kidney disease, diabetes, or other conditions.

  • Fine needle aspirates: This procedure involves using a very thin needle to take a small sample of cells from a mass or lump on your pet's body. The sample is then examined under a microscope to look for signs of cancer or other abnormalities.

  • Cytologies: This test involves examining a sample of cells from your pet’s body using skin scrapings, ear swabs, and other techniques to look for signs of infection or disease.

  • Cultures: This test involves taking a sample of your pet's body fluids or tissue and growing it in a laboratory to identify any bacteria or other microorganisms that may be causing an infection.

Pharmacy On-Site

Pharmacy On-Site & Online

We strive to keep essential prescription medications in-stock and readily available.

By having a pharmacy on-site, it allows you to fill your pet’s prescription medications quickly and easily, without having to go to a separate pharmacy. This can be particularly helpful if your pet needs medication immediately, or if you have difficulty traveling to a pharmacy.

If your pet has been prescribed medications that must be taken life-long, we also provide our clients with access to our online pharmacy.  Our online pharmacy makes home delivery of your pet’s medications possible and allows you to shop for other products which may not be carried directly at our on-site pharmacy.

Select canine and feline prescription diets will also be available via our on-site and online pharmacies.

In addition to prescription medications, we stock a range of over-the-counter medications, supplements, and other pet care products.  Our on-site and online pharmacies are a convenient way to access the products you need to keep your pet healthy and happy!

Holistic Offerings

Holistic Offerings

Happy Beagle

Holistic offerings are a type of alternative or complementary therapy that is focused on treating the whole body and mind, rather than just the symptoms of a specific condition or disease. These therapies can be used in conjunction with traditional veterinary medicine to provide a more comprehensive approach to your pet's health and well-being. We offer red light therapy appointments, therapeutic canine massage, and supplement suggestions.

Red light therapy is a type of holistic treatment that involves exposing your pet to low-level red and near-infrared light. This light is thought to help improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing in the body.

Therapeutic canine massage is another holistic offering that involves using massage techniques to help your pet relax and relieve muscle tension. This can be beneficial for dogs that are recovering from surgery or injuries, or for those that are dealing with chronic pain or stress.

Supplement suggestions are another type of holistic offering that can be helpful for pets. Your veterinarian may suggest specific dietary supplements or other natural remedies to help support your pet's health and well-being.

Nutritional Counseling

Nutritional Counseling

Nutritional counseling is a service offered that involves providing advice and guidance on your pet's dietary needs and eating habits, with the goal of helping your pet maintain a healthy weight and optimum nutrition.

High-quality nutrition is crucial for the overall health and longevity of your pet. Proper nutrition can help support your pet's immune system, improve their overall health, and prevent a range of chronic diseases.

Weight management is also an important aspect of pet nutrition. Overweight and obese pets are at increased risk for a range of health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems. A balanced, nutritious diet and regular exercise can help your pet maintain a healthy weight and reduce their risk of these conditions.

We can provide valuable guidance on your pet's nutritional needs and help you develop a plan for managing their weight and overall health. This can be an important part of keeping your pet healthy and happy for many years to come!

Hospitalization Availability

Hospitalization Availability

Although we are not a 24-hour care facility, we can provide your pet with daytime monitoring, fluid therapy, various treatments, and an overnight stay when necessary.

Hospitalization can be helpful in a variety of situations, including if your pet is recovering from surgery, needs intensive treatment for a medical condition, or requires specialized monitoring. It allows your pet to receive the care they need in a safe and comfortable environment, and can be an important part of their overall treatment plan.

Housecalls

House Calls

Some pets are more comfortable staying in their familiar home environment.  At Ely Veterinary Care, we are open to coming to your home to evaluate your pet to ease their anxiety and create a positive veterinary experience for them.

We understand that house calls not only benefit some timid, anxious pets, but also their owners by decreasing the stress of transporting your pet to and from the clinic.  At your home, we can perform various services for your pet, including complete physical exams, vaccinations, a variety of treatments, and some sample collection for testing at the clinic or through reference laboratories.  And, if you feel as though your beloved pet no longer has a good quality-of-life, we offer in-home humane euthanasia services when requested.

End-of-Life Care

End of Life Care

This is a difficult time for many pet owners. We can help ease this burden by providing your pet with a quality-of-life exam, humane euthanasia, and cremation services when desired.

End-of-life care involves assisting pets and their owners during the end stages of a pet's life. This can be a trying time for pet owners, and it is important to have access to compassionate and supportive care.

A quality-of-life exam is a type of evaluation that helps determine whether a pet's quality of life is good enough to continue treatment or if it is time to consider humane euthanasia. This exam considers factors such as a pet's pain levels, mobility, appetite, health status, and overall enjoyment of life.

Humane euthanasia is a way to kindly end a pet's suffering when their quality of life is no longer good. It is performed by a trained veterinarian and involves administering a medication that quickly and painlessly ends the pet's life.

We also offer cremation services through a professional source for those clients who wish to utilize this aftercare option for their beloved pets.

Overall, end-of-life care is an important part of the veterinary support process and can comfort both pets and their owners during this challenging period.
